Scope of Practice

  • Accompany patient from the waiting rooms to the clinic
  • Collect and record medical and dental history and patient vital signs
  • Insure to disrepute all the dental health material
  • Record treatment information in patient records and manage patients during dental procedures
  • Perform efficiency in chairside assisting; suctioning, passing instruments, collection after treatment procedure completion
  • Provides instruments by delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist's access
  • Submits, follows and collect lab work to the laboratory for study casts and communicate with dentist and front desk prior to patient appointment
  • Helps dentist manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining BLS certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory
  • Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; calling for repairs and maintenance services; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
  • Maintains dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications
  • Prepares patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping patient
  • Participate in preventive programs planned by KAUDH in the form of lectures, seminars and demonstrations
  • Perform dental prophylaxis (scaling, root planning and polishing)
  • Managing dental records and manage patients during dental procedures
  • Apply various preventive measures which include:
    • Patient education and motivation
    • Oral hygiene instructions
    • Topical fluoride application
    • Pits and fissure sealant
  • Prepares treatment room for patient by delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for easy access; suctioning; collection after treatment procedure completion, cleaning and scrubbing, pouching, and return to CSSD
  • Perform daily check on the operation of the designated dental units and request maintenance services and follow up on the requests
  • Cleaning and polishing removable appliances
  • Makes primary impression

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in dental assistant
  • Diploma in dental assistant
